Hon Sualyman Jammeh, National Assembly member for Bundungkakunda, and also the chair for the Select Committee for Local Government and Lands, has called for a good relationship between area councils and the central government, saying both are serving the public.

Hon Jammeh made this call on Thursday at the National Assembly during the adjournment debate 2023.

He told deputies that the area councils should be ready to collaborate with the central government so that they could all work together to achieve their common goal.

He said each of these institutions has a responsibility at their level, but equally they should be partners and see each other eye to eye.

Hon Jammeh also appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Lands for them to fast-track the Local Government Act so that some of the issues those councils are crying for could  be solved.

“As the representative of Bundung, we have so many issues that we are trying to address, but based on our collaboration with the government, most of those issues have been solved now, thanks to the support of members in this house,” he said.

He added: “I must take this opportunity on behalf of the people of Bundung to thank the government for responding to our call because the reason why I am sent here, is for me to represent my people.”
