Members of National Security Council including the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) and other senior security officials yesterday visited the border villages of Foni in the West Coast Region amid recent fight between the MFDC rebels and the Senegalese Force.

The visit, officials say was necessitated amid the recent skirmish between the Senegalese Army and rebels in Casamance which resulted in many people within the border villages from Bwiam and Kanilai fleeing for safety.

"There were heavy gunshots at the boardlines around Kantimba and Gikess villages. These villages are close to Casamance border and there was continued firing between the two forces," our source said on the condition of anonymity.

During the visit, the National Security Council was expected to visit border villages and have meetings with them and also sensitise them on the need to maintain peace and also avoid areas that are within Casamance, the southern part of Senegal.
