Focusing his remarks on Bensouda, the minister argued that anyone seeking a higher office should first account for their record in their current position.
“You have been mayor for 8 years and you cannot show the road you have constructed; you cannot even show one kilometer of road you can construct,” Badjie told supporters.
The minister also accused the KMC mayor of neglecting his responsibilities at the council in pursuit of his presidential ambition. He claimed that Bensouda was in the United States campaigning for his party instead of carrying out his duties as mayor.
“He even forgot he is a mayor and went to do the work of his party. He is campaigning for the presidency,” he said.
Badjie cautioned residents against making what he described as the wrong political choice, saying they would have themselves to blame if they allowed history to repeat itself.
He urged voters in Kotu Quarry to support candidates of the NPP/APRC alliance in the upcoming local government elections, arguing that President Barrow needs National Assembly Members, councillors and mayors who can work alongside him for his development agenda to continue.
“For President Barrow’s work to continue, he must have National Assembly Members, councillors and mayors who can work with him,” the minister said.
Badjie also pointed to what he described as the government’s achievements in electricity, water supply, road construction and support for women, saying these developments demonstrate the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Gambians and should serve as reasons for voters to back the NPP/APRC alliance in the forthcoming polls.
