The accused was dragged to court before Magistrate Dem of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court. Sowe, who appeared without legal representation, pleaded not guilty to both counts of offence levelled against him.
DSP Buteh Sawaneh , representing the Inspector General of Police, outlined the charges in court. The first charge, for cattle stealing, alleges that on May 31, 2025, Sowe stole twenty-one goats valued at 970,000.00 dalasis, being the property of one Harouna Sowe at Sanyang village.
Under Section 255 of The Gambia’s Criminal Code, Sowe faces significant penalties if convicted.
The second charge involves conspiracy to commit felony.
Buba Bah and Ousainou Ceesay were accused of jointly conspiring among themselves to steal, thereby committed an offence, according to Section 368 of the Criminal Code 10 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia.
After the charges were read, the duo denied any wrongdoing. The prosecutor then requested an adjournment of the case, and further objected to the bail of the accused on the grounds that the matter was still under investigation. If the accused were granted bail, he argued, they would interfere with the investigation.
Magistrate Dem granted the application raised by the prosecution and ordered the remand of the accused.
