The accused was charged with obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 288 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01, Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia. However, he pleaded not guilty to charge.
According to the charge sheet, the accused in the month of March 2023, at Brikama Jamisa ,West Coast Region with intend defrauded and obtained the sum of one hundred and thirty thousand dalasis (D130,000) from one Samba Bah under the pretext that he (accused) owns a plot of land for sale, measuring 20 by 20 meters located at Brikama Jamisa, which the accused knew was false at that time.
Prosecuting officer, Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh who appeared for the IGP did not oppose the bail of the accused and applied for an adjournment to call his first witness.
Presiding magistrate in his ruling granted the accused bail in the sum of D150, 000 with one Gambian surety, who must deposit a valid ID card or passport.
The case was adjourned until 24 September 2024.
