He said the offence with which the convict was charged attracts three years imprisonment by virtue of Section 84(1) of the Criminal Code. He stated that if the convict fails to pay the fine, the sentences would run concurrently. The magistrate went on to say that tourists should be protected. In reading the facts to the court by Cpl 6274 Badjie, she told the court that the incident happened on the 8th November, 2024. She stated that the complainant sent 300 Euros to the convict to book a hotel room for her. “When the complainant arrived in The Gambia she found out that the convict had not booked a hotel room for her. She was not happy with the convict, who told her in a message that her life was at risk and that he would kill her. He also sent a similar message to the family of the complainant. The complainant then reported the matter to the Senegambia Police Station. The convict accepted the allegation at the police,” she told the court.
The convict, as a result, begged the court for mercy. He said he committed the offence because he was angry. “I beg the complainant to forgive me. I love her. I have a family,” he pleaded.
The complainant told the court that she was shocked when the convict sent her a threatening message.” He also sent a threatening message to my family, and they were also shocked. I want him to stay away from me. I am protected. I am in safe hands,” she stated.
