Macky resigns as special envoy of 4P

Oct 8, 2024, 9:42 AM

Macky Sall has resigned from his position as special envoy of the Paris Pact for People and the Planet (4P).

According to the reasons given by the former President of the Republic of Senegal, he is the head of the list of the Takku Wallu Senegal alliance for the early legislative elections that will take place on November 17th. And that this position, he says, is incompatible with his duties as special envoy of the 4P.

In his resignation letter to the President of France Emmanuel Macron, Macky writes:

“Paris Pact for the People and the Planet

October 5, 2024

Mr. President,

As you are probably aware, the political circumstances in Senegal, following the dissolution of the National Assembly, have led me to be appointed as the head of the Coalition Takku Wallu Sénégal for the legislative elections scheduled for November 17, 2024.

In these conditions, and to avoid any risk of incompatibility or conflict of interest, I would like to inform you that I have decided to step back from my activities as Special Envoy of the Paris Pact for the People and the Planet, effective October 9, following the Hamburg Summit on Sustainability for which I had already made commitments.

Mobilizing the international community around the objectives of the Paris Pact for the People and the Planet has been an exhilarating task for me. I want to sincerely thank you for your trust and reaffirm my strong attachment to our friendship. Rest assured that I remain willing to collaborate with you on matters of mutual interest.

Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest and most amicable consideration.

Macky Sall

His Excellency Emmanuel Macron

President of the French Republic”
