The alleged murder trial involving Kumba Sinyan, who is accused of killing her boyfriend Lamarana Jallow, at the Friendship Hostel in Bakau yet again suffered another setback due to the illness of the defence lawyer, Mrs. Sagar Twum.

The trial was supposed to continue today with the State set to bring in their last witness (PW 10) in the ongoing alleged murder case.

During yesterday’s court proceedings before Justice Sidi K. Jobarteh, the presiding Judge inquired with State Counsel Lamin Jarju whether he (Jarju) received a letter from the defence’s lawyer Mrs. Twum?

Responding to the question, State Counsel Lamin Jarju confirmed receiving a letter from Kumba Sinyan’s lawyer, saying: “I acknowledged receiving a letter from the accused lawyer requesting for another adjournment date due to the fact that she is sick.”

“We are not opposing another adjournment date on the basis of the reasons mentioned by the defence counsel. We therefore wish her to recover soon and continue to defend the accused person.”

“However, I also want to let the court know that the date chosen by the defence counsel for another adjournment date is not convenient for PW 10. In fact, the witness was in court and he just left. Therefore, the witness is requesting for the 5th of February due to the fact that he would be out of the country during this period.”

The letter from the defence lawyer which was seen by The Point, reads: “Regrettably, I write to inform you that I am still unable to appear in the above mentioned case adjourned for hearing today Monday 18th December 2023 based upon our previous application dated 13th day of December, 2023.”

It added: “Following a visit to the hospital on the same day, a medical certificate was issued by my doctor recommending 14 days of sick leave due to the health condition concerns highlighted therein.”
