Land clash turns violent as 7 arrested, 2 injured in CRR

A serious land dispute between two neighboring villages - Tento Madi Secka and Toben, in the Central River Region (CRR North) - has escalated into violence, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals and leaving two others seriously injured, The Point has been reliably informed.

At the time of reporting, the suspects were being held at a police station in CRR North, and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, as investigations into the incident continued. The injured individuals were expected to be referred to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

An anonymous source confirmed that cutlasses, knives, hammers, and pickaxes were used in the clashes between the two villages, with some villagers sustaining injuries to their hands, while others were wounded on their stomachs and backs.

The clash, according to our sources, stemmed from a land dispute between the two communities, both of which are claiming ownership of the area.

When contacted for comments, Gambia Police Force spokesperson Modou Musa Njie said he was not aware of the incident at the time of going to press. However, he promised to follow up and provide further details.
