Bakary Y Badjie, the youth minister cum mayoral aspirant, who spoke to the media after his nomination, has outlined his development plans for the Kanifing Municipality (KM).

Mr Badjie said he is the best candidate for the position and he is confident that the KM electorate would give him their votes.

“People want a mayor who is responsive, open and understand the needs of the people and work towards addressing them. They also want a mayor who will work in close collaboration with the central government so that they can get their needs attended to,” he said.

“When we are voted in we will make sure we digitalize the tax collection system to be able to maintain good revenue and deliver services the people of the municipality need.”

Mr Badjie also revealed that if elected he would closely work with NAWEC to extend water accessibility to areas that do not have.

“Certain places in Bundung, Tallinding, Abuko, Fajikunda among others have communities that need water; therefore, my council will ensure that water is accessible in those areas,” he promised, saying: “My council will also work with communities to ensure that we come up with a Micro Credit System that is going to support women and young people including persons living with disabilities in the society.”

He further stated that he would ensure he lobbies for fund to build the municipality’s first central garage.

Mr Badjie contested in the 2018 KM mayoral election as an independent candidate and lost to the incumbent Talib Ahmed Bensouda. This May elections will be the second time he is running for the same post.
