The Gambisara born Jawara made the donation following a request made by Imam Fatty with a view to developing an electronic television channel project.
The former State House Imam said: “I believe establishing and implementing this project in the country will go a long way in promoting education, advocacy, and spreading awareness of Islamic values among Muslims.”
Imam Fatty further said: “The project will facilitate the call for unity and tolerance among neighbours, ultimately maintaining peace, security, and stability in The Gambia. Dr Jawara was chosen for this request due to his reputation for magnanimity, generosity, love of goodness, and his initiatives in helping both local and distant individuals.”
Imam Fatty emphasises the importance of Sunni scholars and preachers in this field, saying: “The implementation of this project will make our work easier and more effective. The programs of the electronic television channel will focus on religious, intellectual, and social education within the community, providing appropriate methods and solutions to address the various issues faced by the Ratifur.”
Speaking at the event, Dr Abubakary Jawara reiterated that the donation is aimed at assisting the poor and needy.
“I find pleasure in giving, with the limited resources I have, to those who are less privileged,” he said. “Islam should be the concern of every individual, especially Muslims, and as a Muslim, I am always grateful to be contributing to such kinds of initiatives that are geared towards promoting the teaching of Islam.”
