IEC registers 20th political party

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) yesterday announced the registration of the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD), making it the 20th political party in the country.

“The Independent Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public that after having met the requirements for registration as a political party under section 105 of the Elections Act 2009 (as amended), the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) party has on this 12th day of June 2025 been duly registered as a bona fide political party in The Gambia by the Independent Electoral Commission,” IEC states in a press release.

For one to be qualified as a presidential candidate, you must deposit a sum of D10,000 to IEC, get 10, 000 signatories at least 200 in each of the seven regions with their valid voters’ cards. It also takes one to pay a deposit of 1 million dalasis to form a political party.

Party Secretariat: Brusubi Phase One

Party Acronym: ADD

Party Colours: Red, Above and Green, Below

Party Symbol: Cotton Tree surrounded by 9 people as tribes of The Gambia in a united form

Party Motto: Together As A Nation.”

 

Requirements for Nomination as a Presidential Candidate

  1. Must be a Gambian citizen.
  2. Minimum age: 30 years
  3. Minimum Educational qualification: Senior Secondary School
  4. Residency: 5 years preceding 4th December 2021
  5. Nominated by 5000 voters; at least 200 from each region
  6. Sworn Asset Declaration
  7. Tax clearance certificate
  8. Deposit: D10,000
  9. Symbol, colour, and photograph
  10. QA person qualified to register as a voter may be an independent
  11. Adhere to EIC Code of Campaign Ethics
  12. Manifesto on tolerance and multi-culturalism
