The Ministry of Health, yesterday issued a public alert amid days of pollution within the Greater Banjul Area and beyond.
In a statement on Facebook, the ministry explained that exposure to dust can lead to chronic breathing and lung problems and possible heart disease.

The ministry further added that the finer particles of the airborne dust may penetrate the lower respiratory tract and enter the bloodstream, where they can affect all internal organs and be responsible for cardiovascular disorders such as paralysiss.

“Protect yourself by staying indoors as much as possible, especially those with co-morbidity; mask up; wear glasses while in town; drink a lot of water to keep hydrated.”

To road users, the ministry urges them to be cautious to prevent accidents due to limited visibility.
