The Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) in a press briefing announced they have introduced a new digital travel card system to substitute the local tickets used in the transportation service.

‘Taamo’ card is a smart traveling card which was an initiative designed to digitalise and lessen the usage of hard currency within The Gambia Transport Service Company ( GTSC), maneuvering to lessen the inconvenience of customers whom may run out of cash at any point in time.

Mr. Seedy Kanyi, the general manager of GTSC in his speech, expressed the significant milestone of such achievement, describing it as first of its kind in the history of The Gambia.

“It’s worth knowing that GTSC has been contributing to the growth of The Gambian economy through employment creation, provision of relatively safer, more reliable, safer and affordable means of transportation,” he said.

Mr. Kanyi further explained that GTSC will be officially launching the Taamo Card on the 31st of July 2024, adding Taamo is a term derived from the Mandinka language meaning ‘travel’.

According to him, it is a digital card preloaded with cash to pay for transport fares in order to secure the safety of passengers and ease payments with convenience, safety and affordability.

Mr. Saloum Malang, board chairman of GTSC in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the government of The Gambia and TK Exports for sponsoring and overseeing the implementation of the Taamo project.

He indicated that GTSC company was able to provide busses for the University of The Gambia (UTG) to facilitate the transportation of students with ease.

Mr. Malang thanked His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the whole GTSC staff for their continuous commitment and dedication to render an amazing service to its commuters.
