He thanked Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe and the team for foresight in introducing the digitalisation drive and other reforms that have impacted positively the works of GRA in revenue collection.
The finance minister made the revelation while presiding over the official launching of the Electronic Invoicing (e-invoicing) project held at the ministry’s conference room on Tuesday 8 July 2025 to be implemented by Worldwide AVATAR Technologies.
Hon. Keita acknowledged that GRA’s paradigm shift of introducing various reforms agenda has enhanced compliance that meaningfully helped the Authority to collect the much needed revenue for national development.
The minister pointed out that this amount far outnumbered the previous years in comparison.
He described 2025 as a promising year as far as revenue collection is concerned, while making reference to the introduction of the digital transformative drive and other technologies by GRA to ensure compliance and reduce revenue leakages.
In his welcoming remarks, Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe underscored the significance of this project, saying that this initiative is a transformative journey in the history of tax administration in The Gambia.
According to CG Darboe, this great initiative does not only represent another milestone in our digitalisation agenda, but "it also symbolises our commitment to building a modern, transparent, and efficient tax administration system that serves the best interests of our country, our businesses and our taxpayers."
According to the GRA boss, the e-Invoicing system launched by GRA, when implemented, will ensure accurate, verifiable, and real-time invoicing records, reduce the paperwork and administrative burdens that businesses currently face and limit tax evasion and fraud through better data integrity as well as improve overall VAT compliance and revenue collection for national development among others.
CG Darboe outlined the importance of the project, saying that the e-Invoicing system can support taxpayers by reducing the burden of preparing tax returns manually, increase transparency, ensure accuracy and empower businesses with better tools to manage their business transactions. He added that the "success of this project depends not just on the technology but also on the cooperation and participation of our taxpayers."
"Therefore, we will spare no effort in ensuring that businesses, professionals, and all affected stakeholders are fully informed, prepared, and supported throughout the implementation phase. We will provide guidance, training, and support throughout the implementation."
