In a quest to providing health care services affordable to all Gambians, the Ministry of Health has announced plans that the government will be building major referral hospitals in each region across the country.

"Very soon, every region in the country will have a major referral hospital and multiple health centers to make health care accessible and affordable to all," the Ministry states in a dispatch.

"In Brikama, the existing hospital near the market will be transformed into a polyclinic, and a new major referral hospital with 200 beds will be constructed in Maduar. The World Bank is funding this project."

"In Basse, the current hospital will also be transformed into a polyclinic. Additionally, a 100-bed major referral hospital will be built outside Basse with secured funds from the World Bank."

"The finish line is in sight for the new Farato Hospital, following three years of construction."

"In Njau, the construction of a new hospital is already underway. This facility will include a theater for surgeries."

"Thirteen health centers in Kiang Karantaba, Kudang, Kaur, and other villages are undergoing roof replacements and renovations. Again, five new health centers were recently inaugurated in Tumana, Mankamang Kunda, Kiang Jali, Badibu Salikenni, and Chisay Majaw."

"GamWorks is constructing eight outreach clinics in Bullenghai (WCR), Kanjabina (WCR), Timbing Koto (NBR), Medina Madun (NBR), Chamen Kerr Bai Dam (NBR), Koro Jula Kunda (URR), Bakau (KM), and Tallinding (KM). This project is funded by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA)," they added.
