Gov’t digitally stamps excisable goods

Sep 9, 2024, 11:56 AM

Consistent with its policy of enhancing tax assessment, transparency and compliance, The Gambia Government through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has, since March 2024, introduced a Digital Tax Stamp System nationwide. Enforced by The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), the Digital Stamp covers excisable goods like bottled water, soft drinks, beer, wine and spirit, etc.

Accordingly, the Government applauds the business community for mostly complying with this new Digital Stamp initiative.

The Gambia Government urges all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to support this initiative by ensuring that all purchases relating to the above-mentioned goods visibly display the digital excise tax stamps.  MDAs and citizens are instructed not to purchase un-stamped goods from non-compliant suppliers, producers or manufacturers.

Taxation is the business of almost all institutions and properly utilised, serves as lubricant for government operations. All MDAs are therefore, urged to fully comply with this policy instruction through diligent enforcement to help finance our National Development priorities.
