The Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters in consultation with stakeholders wishes to inform the General Public that a TEMPORARY BAN ON NIGHT FISHING will be effected from Thursday 11th July, 2024 for a period of five months (i.e. from 11th July, 2024  to 30th November, 2024).

With effect from the 11th July, 2024 instant, fishing would only be allowed from 6 AM to 6 PM on daily basis and this will continue for the period of five months. It is important for the operators in the Artisanal subsector to observe this Management measure.  This measure affects all the landing sites along the Atlantic Coast only.

It is also necessary to note that this measure (Temporary Ban on Night Fishing) will allow the rejuvenation of our fish stock through the provision of respites for the marine environment.

As part of the reinforcement measure, the Department of Fisheries in consultation with the relevant Institutions and the local Communities will ensure compliance.
