Tina Faal, the deputy party leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) recently announced her resignation from the party days before the party’s congress that selected Mboob to replace her.

She wrote on her Facebook timeline that: “I have resigned from my position as deputy party leader. I want to thank all party militants for their love and respect for me. I wish my brother Hon. Mamma and the GDC all the best.”

During the GDC congress in Jarra Soma on Saturday, Mamma Kandeh, the party leader, stated that the party has come to empower the youth and the women. He added that unfortunately, some have abused that power because of forming subgroups for petty discussions.

He told supporters that gone are days when someone will be elected in a position and he/she uses the media to tarnish the image of the party.

“Though we haven’t won the presidential or parliamentary elections, we have never contributed negatively to this country; instead contributed for good. One can dislike the party but to refute the fact that we contributed to the development of the country, that’s a false claim.”

He revealed that some of the party militants were mobilising themselves to join NPP because the party didn’t win the last elections. Kandeh gave an example that United Democratic Party (UDP) has been in politics since 1996 and none of them has moved.

The GDC head continued that anybody who joins the party for money would fail, while adding that if anyone needs a salary, the person should join the government because GDC wouldn’t pay anyone a salary.
