The Gambia is set to host a significant regional advocacy workshop on ‘Women, Peace, Security, and Social Cohesion Resolutions’ in Banjul on Thursday, 30 May 2024 at Tamala Hotel.

The event is organised under the auspices of the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, and is spearheaded by Prof. Adjaratou Wakha Aidara Ndiaye, Director of Partners West Africa, in collaboration with Gambian authorities and the African Centre for Human Rights and Democracy Studies (ACHDRS).

The workshop aims to address key issues and promote strategies for enhancing women's roles in peacebuilding, security, and social cohesion across the region.

The primary objective of the workshop is to organise a high-level forum involving ministries responsible for women, families, and social cohesion, along with technical and financial partners, regional institutions such as ECOWAS and the AU, and leaders from civil society organisations and women's rights networks, including "He for She" organisations.

The forum aims to foster networking among decision-makers and stakeholders to effectively implement women's resolutions on peace and security, using evidence-based data for informed decision-making.

Under the leadership of the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Honorable Mrs. Fatou Kinteh, the workshop will feature a high-level panel with ministers of women or their representatives from Senegal, Republic of Guinea, Mauritania, Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Verde, and Chad. The panel will focus on the theme of “women, youth, peace, and security” in the ECOWAS and Sahel regions.

Key objectives include sharing recommendations from national advocacy workshops with ministries responsible for women, families, and social cohesion, as well as with technical and financial partners, regional institutions (ECOWAS, AU), and leaders of civil society organisations and women’s rights networks.

The event will also organise roundtables, conferences, and panels on critical themes, involving state representatives, technical and financial partners, CSOs/NGOs, "He for She" organisations, and traditional, religious, and customary authorities.

Additionally, the workshop aims to draft a joint statement for unified advocacy to be presented to states, technical and financial partners, regional institutions (ECOWAS, AU), and leaders of civil society organisations and women’s rights networks.
