The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in The Gambia has finalised the formulation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) to succeed the UNDAF 2017-2023. This framework, which is formulated through a highly participatory process will cover the period 2024-2028 and will serve as a critical tool to advance attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, other global and regional agendas as well as the national development priorities as enshrined in the RF-NDP.
Delivering the official signing statement on behalf of the Gambia, Dr Mamadou Tangara, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, congratulate UN Resident Coordinator and her Country Team as well as all UN Member States for the milestone achievements recorded over the years in serving humanity at large.
The UN Day is celebrated all over the world to demonstrate the positive role the UN is playing as the biggest International Organisation whose stated purposes are to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, promote international cooperation for development, and serve as a centre for harmonising the actions of nations for the benefit of humanity.
“October 24th is a day to reflect on the vital role the UN plays to uphold the principles and values that unite us in our shared commitment for a better world since its establishment after World War II with the aim of preventing future world wars, following the collapse of the League of Nations,” Minister Tangara said.
He added that The Gambia government reiterates its full commitment to continue upholding the principles and goals of the UN as well as its unwavering support for and participation in the current UN reform and transformation agenda in order to meet the organisation’s purpose and mandate of ensuring global peace, security, justice, development and prosperity.
Seraphine Wakana, the UN resident coordinator for The Gambia, said the United Nations will usher in a new five-year journey under the banner of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2024-2028 and celebrate 78 years of existence.
Madam Wakana expressed her appreciation of the United Nations family to the government of The Gambia, for clearing the pathway and “walking with us to arrive at this very important moment.”
“On behalf of the UN in The Gambia, I re-affirm, through this cooperation framework, our commitment to work together to support the Government and people of The Gambia to build resilient and inclusive communities, promote equality, and foster partnerships that are based on mutual respect and understanding,” she added.
