The Local Government Commission of Inquiry Monday hosted Kemo Bojang, the youth councillor at the Kanifing Municipal Council, who testified over a set of issues, ranging from audit reports, payments and projects.

Kemo tendered an activity report for the Kanifing Municipal Youth Committee (KMYC), which he is a member. He said he attends meeting of KMYC when he is available, explaining that he did not take part in the formulation of the document (activity report) but was consulted, though he couldn't provide evidence of consultation.

“Apart from the KMYC, do you have activity plan as a councillor which you prepared on your own?” Lead Counsel Patrick Gomez asked.

Kemo responded that it is not part of his mandate to prepare an activity plan. However, he said he usually takes part in the formulation of the council activity reports.

On the challenges faced by the youth of KMC, he enumerated said unemployment and recreation, among others.

Kemo said he initiated some youth empowerment projects, which included the Batch Car initiative to give young people the tricycles for repayment within a year, a D20M revolving loan with the Supersonicz Microfinance, the Renovation of Community Centers, D1M from the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) for three businesses belonging to young people.

Kemo said he does not have the documents, claiming the documents are with the KMC. He was tasked to provide them.

Lead Counsel Patrick Gomez asked the witness to explain or provide clarity on the relationship between the KMC and the KMYC, and whether his activities were that of the KMC or KMYC.

Kemo stated that the KMC collaborates with the KMYC; that is to say the activities are done in collaboration but not a partnership.

Following Kemo's appearance on Monday, the Commisson heard the testimony of Sainabou Martin (Tuesday and Wednesday). Martin is the erstwhile embattled CEO of KMC, who is now the CEO of Kerewan Area Council following her recent transfer.
