Gambia shines on global stage at Osaka Expo 2025

The Gambia has made a remarkable impression at the Osaka Expo 2025, showcasing its rich cultural heritage, development ambitions, and investment potential to a global audience.

With vibrant displays and a robust presence at this esteemed international exhibition, the country is garnering praise for its dynamic participation, positioning itself as a rising voice in global discussions on sustainability, innovation and inclusive growth.

The World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, commenced with great grandeur as nations from across the globe gathered to showcase their cultures, technologies and visions for the future.

Among the distinguished participants was The Gambia, represented by a high-profile delegation headed by Saibo Tunkara, the Commissioner General for The Gambia at Expo 2025, in Osaka Japan.

Mr Tunkara proudly carried the Gambian flag onto one of the world’s most prestigious international platforms, marking a historic moment for the West African nation. Joining him were key government officials, including the Minister for Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, Baboucarr Ousmaila Joof; Sulayman Camara, Cybersecurity Adviser to the President and Head of NPP Media and Communication; Ousman Bojang, Director of Trade, and a dedicated technical team.

In his keynote address, Minister Joof underscored the enduring trade and economic ties between The Gambia and Japan, commending Japan’s long-standing support through technical assistance and aid programmes. He highlighted the alignment between Expo 2025 theme and The Gambia’s national development priorities, positioning the country as a strategic gateway for trade and investment within Africa.

“The Gambia’s participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a testament to our commitment to regional integration and economic transformation,” Minister Joof stated. He further outlined the government’s initiatives, including an ongoing industrial policy review and the establishment of a Special Economic Zone, inviting Japanese investors and partners to collaborate on these ventures.

At the Gambian Pavilion, visitors were immersed in the vibrant sights, sounds, and narratives of a nation rich in heritage and ambition. From traditional performances to interactive exhibits, the pavilion offered a compelling account of The Gambia’s journey towards digital innovation, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.

Commissioner General Saibo Tunkara echoed this vision, highlighting The Gambia’s emergence as a hub for trade and technology in West Africa. “This Expo is not just a showcase; it is a statement of who we are and where we are headed,” he remarked.
