Welcoming the dignitaries, Mariama Jobarteh, secretary of Fire and Safety Company Ltd., while expressing delight to be associated with the event, acknowledged that they have gathered at the event not just to celebrate the birth of a company, but to underscore their commitment to making their presence felt in the country’s fire and safety issues.
She reminded that they remain committed to providing cutting-edge issues in fire safety solutions that transcend industrial standards.

She lauded the visionary minds behind the company, whom she said, bring on board unparallel knowledge to the company, further saluting Babucarr Jabbi, the France-based Gambian and Dawda Samba for initiating the company.
Yahya Sonko, Gambia Fire and Rescue Services, while describing the event as historic, expressed delight to be associated with the event.
The launch of the company, he added, would not only ease the burden on the GFRS, but also the populace in general in view of the fact fire safety is everyone’s business.
He called on all to be vigilant about fire disasters, noting that with the gadgets demonstrated, he is hopeful about the company’s readiness for the task.
Sonko thus thanked the management of the new company for their bold move, further expressing his department’s resolve to work with them in their service to the nation.
Alhagie Secka, a representative from the Ministry of Interior, described Babucarr Jabbi, the CEO of the new company, as a household name in the country since his tenure advocating against irregular migration through clandestine means.
The Ministry, he added, acknowledged and lauded his efforts to national development, saying the government will always continue to create an enabling environment for Gambians to contribute their quota towards national development.
Secka reminded that the Ministry has gone far working on the Fire and Service Act, which inter alia highlighted issues that ensure that people’s life and properties are safe.
“We all know that disaster is as old as mankind and that we can’t stop it completely, but we can mitigate it and ensure that when it strikes, the danger involved would be very minimal and in so doing, we ensure that the right ideas and tools are in place. This is the only way forward and to ensure that we are safe as well as our properties.”
To that end, Secka thanked Jabbi for his foresight and assured him of their unrelenting support and that of the line ministries to achieve positive results.
In his demo presentation, Abubacar Jabbi, CEO of Fire and Safety Company Ltd., recalled that before he moved to France, he was working for an advocacy group that campaigned against irregular migration -Operation No Backway to Europe.
This, he added, had gone to an extent that his efforts were recognised by the then president, saying while in France he would constantly recalibrate what area to pursue as a career.
However, he revealed that having lived in France for sometime and working in a fire safety company, he came to the reality that The Gambia’s preparedness and security system in terms of fire safety is completely different.
This, he said, even came to light during his first visit to the country upon arriving at the country’s main international airport.
Jabbi spoke highly of his readiness, wealth of experience and dedicated team to explore the country’s fire and safety terrain, saying the country is using only one type of fire distinguishers in the country.
“Even whereas these fire extinguishers are in our homes and offices, but are we trained on how to use them? There are ways of using these fire extinguishers. Do we have someone to use it in the event of fire outbreaks, because a layman cannot use it.”
He spoke about the training opportunities especially for men in tackling raging fire at any stage, saying they remain ever ready to print their mark on the country’s fire and safety domain.
