The Government and people of The Gambia extend their warmest congratulations and sincere appreciation to the Government and people of the Arab Republic of Egypt on this important milestone. The anniversary stands as a testament to six decades of enduring friendship and meaningful cooperation, grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a common aspiration for sustainable development and regional stability.
The Government of The Gambia expresses its profound gratitude for Egypt’s ongoing support in the fields of education and healthcare. Key initiatives include the awarding of Al-Azhar scholarships to Gambian students, the establishment of an Arabic language centre in The Gambia, and the construction of a new Egyptian-funded hospital in Banjul. Egypt has also played a critical role in human resource development, having trained over 120 Gambian professionals across various sectors over the past decade.
The two sides also held substantive discussions on regional peace and security, with a particular focus on West Africa and the Sahel. The Government of The Gambia acknowledges Egypt’s concern over instability in Libya and Sudan and values Cairo’s proactive engagement in efforts to promote peace across the region. Egypt’s continued mediation efforts to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza and its strong support for Palestinian statehood were also highlighted during the talks.
As The Gambia and Egypt commemorate this milestone, both countries reaffirm their shared commitment to further strengthening their diplomatic, technical, and economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples. The Government of The Gambia remains confident that the partnership with Egypt will continue to flourish and contribute to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in Africa and beyond.
