The deputy speaker made the above statement on Monday when delivering his official opening remarks at a parliamentary workshop for National Assembly Members on Nuclear Security held at the Auditorium of the National Assembly.
The workshop was organised by Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) with a view to enhancing the capacity and understanding of members of the National Assembly of The Gambia on the threats and pertinent issues regarding nuclear security and connected matters.
“The workshop is equally important as it highlights and familiarises Hon. Members on the international nuclear security legislative framework and relevant international treaties or conventions as well as the benefits of joining such treaties,” Hon. Njie said, adding that the parliament of The Gambia had ratified many security-related international instruments aimed at consolidating peace, security and stability in the world.
According to him, The Gambia deposited the instrument of ratification, constituting acceptance of the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency on 3 January 2023.

Your voice, influence, and legislative power can help ensure the security of nuclear and radiological materials, prevent acts of nuclear terrorism, and bring about a safer world for us all.”
