Former WAAPP coordinator takes over P2RS ADB funded project

Mr. Sheikh Tijan Sosseh with his experience has successfully implemented three projects in the Gambia, namely: the Africa Emergency Locust Project (AELP), Gambia Emergency Agricultural Project (GEAP) and West African Agricultural Productivity Programme,(WAAPP).

Speaking at the end of a 5-day training of 25 ‘back-way’ returnees on poultry management and other skills, Mr. Sosseh, the project director P2RS, commended the Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU) for the trust bestowed on him to oversee the implementation of the P2RS.

He told the participants that the training was supported by P2RS – an African Development Bank funded project.

He assured that he would implement the P2RS project to its expectation by applying his experience or replicate the previous strategy experience to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

He commended the Department of Livestock Service through its director general for their collaboration with the project.

He revealed that that is the first batch of back-way returnees who benefited from the project package by training over 25 youths on various modules with the aim to build their capacity to become self-reliant in future.

Mr. Sosseh advised the participants to utilise the knowledge gained during those five days. He also assured the participants that more opportunities were in the pipeline and all they need to do is focus, commitment and dedication.

In his closing remarks, the director general at the Department of Livestock Service (9DLS), Dr. Abdou Cessay, expressed joy and appreciation over the commitment of the youths during those five days training on poultry production, book keeping and marketing strategy among other modules.

He used the opportunity to thank P2RS for supporting and allowing the DLS to coordinate the training which he said is key for the youths.

He also challenged the participants to grab that rare opportunity and ensure that they implement the knowledge gained after those five days.
