The message reads as follows:
I congratulate my dear sister, Her Excellency Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the Republic of Ghana, on her selection as the next Secretary-General of the
Commonwealth of Nations during the recently held Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa. I wish her a successful tenure that will make Africa proud of her leadership.
I take this opportunity to commend my dear brother Senator Joshua Setipa for his positive campaign and for giving dynamism to the efforts to make the Commonwealth Secretariat fit for purpose in delivering our common agenda and aspirations.
I thank His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, for his endorsement of my candidacy. Additionally, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all Gambians for their overwhelming support during the whole process.
I commend Her Excellency Fatou Bom Bensouda, High Commissioner of the Republic of The Gambia to the Court of St. James for her competent leadership of my campaign. I am beholden to Her Excellency Ambassador Jainaba Jagne, Permanent Representative to the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, His Excellency Ambassador Lamin B. Dibba, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, His Excellency Muhammadou M. O. Kah, Permanent
Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, their staff, and the campaign communications team for the significant contribution during this important journey.
My gratitude is also extended to the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad who have been instrumental and are greatly appreciated. The campaign was faithful to the dignity, grace and humility customary to our great nation. It has also showcased The Gambia’s solid support for a transformed Commonwealth and to further build resilience through mutually beneficial cooperation.
To all those that said prayers, thank you. The Almighty has done what is best. I am grateful. For me the destination matters less than the journey; and the journey has been educational, fulfilling, and enriching.
