Her Excellency Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay recently presented her credentials to His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, president of the Republic of Botswana.

In presenting her credentials, she said: “Your Excellency, I have the honour and pleasure to present to you, Sir, the Letters by which His Excellency Mr. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, accredits me as High Commissioner/Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Botswana.”

She added that the relations between Botswana and The Gambia have always been excellent, characterised by a firm commitment to the strict observance of human rights, democracy and the rule of law, noting that these shared values made it possible for these relations to grow from strength to strength.

She recalled that many years ago, long before The Gambia established its own University, some of our prospective students had pursued their higher studies in Botswana as part of the U.B.L.S (University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland) at that time.

She stated that in the course of her tour of duty she would draw inspiration from such arrangements to explore other potential areas in which Botswana and The Gambia could cooperate.

“It would be in order, therefore, to look into possibility of entering technical and cultural agreement that would take to higher heights, the already excellent relations that have always existed between our two countries,” she also said.

According to her, she remains strengthened in her conviction that she could count on president Masisi’s personal support and that of his Government in order to achieve their common goal of strengthening even further their bilateral relations.
