The three accused persons, all Senegalese citizens, yesterday appeared before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy.
According to the particulars of offence filed by DSP Buteh Sawaneh, Muhammed Jallow (father to the twins), Isatou Jallow (grandmother) and Amadou Kanteh on the 17th day of March, 2025, at Brikama Gidda in West Coast Region (WCR) of The Gambia, conspired amongst themselves to commit a felony and thereby committed an offence.
The prosecution further argued that Muhammed Jallow, Isatou Jallow and Amadou Kanteh on the same day at Brikama Gidda, WCR, intended to deprive Abibatou of her children by forcefully taking the twins (names withheld) from their mother and thereby committed an offence.
The prosecution also added that the three individuals (accused persons) jointly assaulted one Kaddijatou Saidyleigh by pushing her and thereby committed an offence.
Deputy Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh appeared for the IGP, while Counsel Y. Baldeh represented the accused persons who pleaded not guilty to all charges.
At this juncture, the prosecution sought for an adjournment in order to secure their first prosecution witness, while also raising no objection to the bail of the accused.
Counsel Y. Baldeh assured the court that when his clients are granted bail, they would attend all the court proceedings.
However, the presiding magistrate ruled that since all the accused are Senegalese citizens, it is likely that they might jump the bail and flee out of the country when granted bail.
The case is scheduled for 26 March 2025 for the hearing.
