Esau Williams announces retirement from BBC

Sep 25, 2023, 11:30 AM

Esau Williams, a Gambian-born broadcast journalist who has been working for the BBC for more than a decade, has announced retirement in a Facebook post.

"This is my last week at the BBC, and I will be formally leaving the corporation - but I might pop in on the odd freelance shift," he stated.

Esau has worked for the British Broadcast Cooperative for almost 13 years, presenting news and current affairs programmes to a global audience.

"For someone who gets bored rather quickly, spending 13 years and six months at the BBC must mean one of two things: It was such a fascinating place to work, or I must've lost my mind.  I am pleased to say it was the former, and as is the life case, every journey has an end.

As to the future? Well, let's see what comes next.  In the meantime, I thank all the colleagues - past and present - whom I've had the privilege of spending 13 or so years with, and wish them well."
