Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) has rubbished the allegation that doctors' discharge of one Momodou Salieu Jallow after he had suffered from acute kidney disease eventually led to his death after surgery.

The hospital management at a press briefing on Thursday revealed that three months ago, a child named Momodou Salieu Jallow was admitted at EFSTH and underwent surgery.

However, last month, it was reported that he was wrongly treated leading to his ultimate death.

This incident was followed by a viral video that made rounds on social media blaming doctors for his death.

Rebutting this allegation, Dr. Lamin Jaiteh, head of Department of Surgery at the EFSTH, told journalists that the said patient was brought to the hospital in a critical condition, noting that the primary objective of medial workers is to save lives.

Dr. John Jabang, also a surgeon, said the hospital would not discharge a patient in such a critical condition.

According to Dr Jabang, the patient was handled by a Cuban doctor, as he acknowledged the contributions of Cubans doctors in The Gambia's health sector.

Dr. Jabang also underscored that the media plays a crucial role in disseminating health information adding the hospital is open to the media.

The Gambia’s health sector is under heavy criticism from the public following the deaths of 70 children from acute kidney injuries as a result of syrups from India.
