Dock Labour Company Gambia Ltd, the latest company in town responsible for the affairs and well-being of dockworkers, has awarded top entrepreneur and former dockworker, Alh Salifu S.K. Jaiteh, with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at their office complex in Banjul.

The award is a recognition of the outstanding contribution and service of Mr Jaiteh to the dock labour service at the ports during his time as a dockworker.

Mr Jaiteh, the CEO of SK Jaiteh and Sons who doubles as Cyprus Honorary Consul in Banjul, expressed gratitude to the company and entire management of the ports for the recognition, describing it as outstanding and worthy of celebrating.

“Before going into the business industry, I was a dockworker first. So, every privilege and entitlement I am enjoying in the country started from there. My journey as a dockworker remains fresh and it’s a reflection of my today’s status. I am thankful for the recognition,” he said in appreciation.

He says every journey in life has a starting point and is still proud of having served in such a position.

“I am really appreciative of the award and  it means a lot to me,” he said. “I pray for the continuous progress and development of the company to its desired  level. Also, I wish to thank all the dockworkers in the country - from their president to the last person together with the Managing Director of GPA and his staff  - for the recognition.

“I am humbled by the award, and it’s a recognition for the entire dockworkers. But also it is a challenge to  everyone to be committed and dedicated to service at all time in every aspect life you may be.”

Mr Jaiteh, prominent for his generosity  and commitment to national service, received his latest recognition from DLCG  for his outstanding contribution and achievements during his time as a dockworker, which he described as a turning point of his status.
