In a bold move to bolster national security and deepen public trust, Director General of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Honourable Ousman Sowe, is set to embark on a 12-day nationwide security assessment tour beginning today, 28 October through Saturday, 8 November.

The annual tour, now a hallmark of DG Sowe’s leadership, will span the length and breadth of The Gambia, reinforcing the SIS’s flagship initiative, the National Security Belt Initiative (NASBI). NASBI is designed to enhance strategic deployments and foster meaningful engagement with critical stakeholders across the country.

According to SIS sources, the tour will feature high-impact activities including the inauguration of newly established SIS offices, foundation stone laying ceremonies for upcoming facilities, and visits to key installations such as Jah Oil Farm. DG Sowe will also hold strategic meetings with regional governors, district chiefs, and regional security heads, ensuring a unified front in safeguarding the nation’s peace.

Since taking the helm of the SIS, DG Sowe has made it a tradition to personally assess the country’s security landscape each year. His leadership, marked by proactive engagement and inter-agency collaboration, has been credited with maintaining The Gambia’s reputation as a beacon of stability in the region.

“This tour is not just symbolic, it’s strategic,” said a senior SIS official. “DG Sowe believes in face-to-face dialogue with regional authorities and everyday Gambians. It’s about listening, learning, and leading.”

The SIS emphasised that this year’s tour will provide DG Sowe with a unique opportunity to directly engage with regional security heads, reinforcing collective efforts to maintain peace and stability nationwide.
