In a press conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that this solution requires, inexorably the exercise of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to build their own independent and sovereign State within the pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem.
He stressed that this position has been the historical one within the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 and China, a bloc of which the Caribbean nation holds the pro-tempo presidency.
“Every moment of impunity, inaction, passivity, double standards or silence will cost more innocent lives. We must act immediately,” stressed the head of Cuban diplomacy.
In this context, he pointed out that the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs makes an urgent call for a ceasefire and demands an end to the war rhetoric.
Likewise, he demands that the United States Government not continue to paralyze the United Nations Security Council using the undemocratic right of veto to protect the excesses of the Israeli government.
This fact, he stressed, demonstrates once again the profound reform that this body needs.
Rodríguez called for the immediate resumption of the emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where the highest priority must be to achieve the cessation of violence and the provision of sufficient humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
He requested to mobilise, under the coordination of the United Nations, emergency humanitarian aid to address the catastrophic situation in Gaza, while asking all parties involved to facilitate the entry and distribution of this indispensable aid.
Furthermore, he urged the UNGA and the Security Council to take all necessary measures to guarantee international protection of the civilian population.
He called on the different mechanisms of political coordination and international integration - such as the Aligned Countries Movement (NAM), G77 and China, and others - to play an active role in stopping the escalation of violence.
Cuba, he stressed, will support and contribute in everything within its power to legitimise international reinforcements in order to put an end to the current situation.
He stressed that these proposed measures are specific, concrete, urgent and in accordance with international law and the purposes and principles of the United Nations charter and reiterated the call to the international community to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Rodríguez denounced that the current situation is a consequence of 75 years of illegal occupation and the violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in their own territory.
Furthermore, he said, the impunity with which the Zionist regime acts can only be explained by its confidence that it will not be held accountable for the consequences of its actions and that it has the support of the United States and its allies.
