Court remands man who reportedly kills uncle after pleading guilty

Principal Magistrate P.M. Njie of the Bundung Magistrate Court in the Kanifing Municipality has yesterday remanded one Tairou Suwareh at the country’s central prison (Mile Two) for reportedly stabbing his uncle to death. 

The accused, who was arraigned by police on Tuesday 16 August 2022 pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him.

According to the statement of offence, the accused is charged with murder contrary to Section 187 of the criminal code cap 10:01 Volume 111 Laws of The Gambia 2009.

The particulars of offence stated that Tairou Suwareh on the 12th day of August , 2022, at Latrikunda Sabiji in the Kanifing Municipality murdered one Saikou Bajo by stabbing him with a pair of scissors, thereby committed an offence.

When the case was mentioned yesterday, Sub Inspector Jallow, the prosecuting officer who appeared for the Inspector General of Police made an application pursuant to Section 62 of the CPC and Section 208 A of the CPC by virtue of Legal Notice 3 of the 2009 to have the accused person be remanded at the Mile Two central prison pending his appearance at the High Court.

Consequently, his application was granted and the presiding magistrate P.M. Njie ordered the accused person to be remanded at prison.
