It was previously noted that the accused, Ousainou Bojang, had stated that he recorded his email address and password in his personal diary, which he believed to be in his house. However, after inquiries with the accused’s brother, it was discovered that the diary was not at the house but had instead been taken by the Anti-Crime Unit’s investigative team. The prosecution subsequently produced the diary in court.
When shown the diary, the accused acknowledged ownership and identified its colour as red. Defence counsel Lamin J. Darboe applied to have the diary admitted into evidence, a request granted without objection from the Director of Public Prosecutions, A.M. Yusuf. The court officially recorded the item as a ‘red hard-cover notebook’.
During the proceedings, the defense counsel presented the alleged smartphone to the accused for identification. The accused examined the device and testified that while his phone was of the same model, Spark 8, his personal device did not have any cracks, whereas the phone presented in court had.
Ousainou further stated that when his phone was initially taken, all his call logs and applications were intact. However, he claimed that after two years, the phone appeared to have been reset.
Counsel Darboe then asked the accused to attempt logging into the phone using his email address and password. The court granted that request, but despite multiple attempts, the accused was unable to access the phone. He informed the court that the device displayed a message stating, “Cannot find my Google account”.
The defence counsel then requested permission for the accused to attempt logging into his email account and the Google App if available on the phone. Again, the accused was unsuccessful in gaining access.
Following these failed attempts Counsel Darboe applied for the court to allow the defence to call a technician to examine the phone. The court granted the request.
The case was set to continue today.
