Consumer Protect to hear allegation against I-Care

The Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (GCCPC) has announced that it will hold a hearing on alleged concertation by I-Care on 25 January 2024 at its secretariat in Kotu.

According to the Commission, it recently concluded an investigation in the eye-care sector concerning alleged concertation by I-Care, which is deemed anti-competitive and has the object or effect of restricting competition.

The press release made available to The Point added that, the investigation was conducted pursuant to section 15 (b) of the Competition Act 2007 which mandates the Commission to investigate an anti-competitive practice either on its own initiative or on the complaint of any person including the state.

“The Commission is mandated under section 47 of the Competition Act to hold a hearing before imposing a penalty or giving a direction to an enterprise liable for engaging in anti-competitive conduct,” it stated, saying that it is in this regard that it has scheduled a hearing for the 25th of January 2024 between 10 am to 11 am at its secretariat in Kotu.

The release stated further: “Interested parties who have any information or documents relevant to the Commission's investigation are invited to indicate their attendance at the hearing as required under Rule 13(1)(b) of the Competition Commission Procedural Rules 2008 by sending an email to: info@gcc.gm or calling: 4466920/ 4466793. Kindly note that the selection of parties to appear at the hearing may be determined by the Commission through its decision-making procedure laid under the Procedural Rules.”
