Hon. Muhammed Magassy, the consul for the Gambia Embassy in Paris, France, on Friday organised the fourth edition of his annual Iftar and Islamic Conference in Brikama.

The Magassy Annual Iftar (MAI) brought together residents of Brikama to celebrate their shared love for one another.

The yearly Iftar and Conference was initiated in 2020 by the former National Assembly Member for Basse Constituency and led by Imam Alhaiba Hydara.

Hon. Magassy served his constituency as an independent candidate for 10 years at the National Assembly.

His appointment came following his decision not to contest in the past Parliamentary elections.

Hon. Magassy explained that he was inspired to initiate the Iftar and Conference in 2012 following an Islamic Conference organised by a woman kafo in Bakau Kachikally.

“I was invited to the event by the women kafo in my capacity as the National Assembly Member for Basse. I was really impressed and touched by Imam Alhaiba Hydara’s preaching method, the content and the clarity of the messages that I approached him for us to initiate a similar event in Brikama,” he explained.

"Imam Hydara and I travel yearly together to attend the Sheikh Karamba Suwaneh Annual Islamic Conference in Madina Souwaneh (Imam Hydara’s home village in Casamance, Senegal,”) he also said.

He went on to say that in 2020, they invited the Tafsir Committee of Imam Hydara’s home village in Brikama for a Conference and Iftar.

He described the initiative meant to get Allah’s blessings as an important one to him.

He thanked his family members, constituency, friends and everyone who contributed in making the day a success.
