Chinese ambassador presents letter of credence to Minister Tangara

BANJUL, 3 September 2022: The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr Mamadou Tangara on Friday 2 September 2022, received a copy of the Letter of Credence of the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Mr. Liu Jin.

Receiving the letters, Foreign Minister Tangara congratulated and welcomed the Ambassador designate to The Gambia and further conveyed willingness to support Ambassador Liu during his tour of duty and to continue to strengthen cooperation with China. He reaffirmed the government’s adherence to the one-China policy.

“The Republic of The Gambia, and the People's Republic of China nurtured deep friendship and we are deeply grateful for the selfless assistance given by China to The Gambia. China is the key force in upholding multilateralism and China’s development is a blessing for developing countries,” posited FM Tangara.

For his part, Ambassador Liu thanked the Foreign Minister and his team for the warm welcome accorded to him and said “Our two countries have developed profound political mutual trust, achieved fruitful outcomes in pragmatic cooperation, expanded people-to-people exchanges, and maintained close cooperation on international and regional affairs.”

Ambassador Liu said China appreciates The Gambia’s adherence to the one-China principle and is ready to work with The Gambia “to expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation”.
