This heart breaking incidents are once again a painful reminder of the effects of FGM and the need for our collective actions to end the harmful traditional practice.
These tragedies highlights the critical need to amplify our stand against harmful traditional practices especially FGM that continue to kill, and rob our girls of their health and dignity.
We recognize the efforts of The Gambia Police Force for their timely response and urge them to ensure justice and accountability.
We wish to remind all Gambians that FGM is illegal in the country and should stay away from the harmful practice.
Meanwhile, as a concerned organization, Beakanyang over the weekend has dispatched a team to Basse Police Station to gather first-hand information about the incident. The team led by our Executive Director had a constructive engagement with the officers and reiterated our call for justice.
Beakanyang remains ever committed to fight against FGM and to promote human rights in the Gambia. We firmly believes that children, irrespective of their background, deserve to be free from harm.
