Ahead of speedy preparation for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit, President Adama Barrow will on Saturday 23 July 2022 lay the foundation stone for the D5 billion ($100 million) OIC Five Star Hotel, according to the Office of The President at State House.

The multimillion dollar project has been contracted to Immoland Sarl Construction Company, a Senegalese construction company. The contract duration is 18 to 20 months.

The five-star hotel according to OIC Gambia would provide luxurious accommodation for the guests during the convergence. The edifice is also expected to reinforce the preeminent position of the country as a leading tourist destination and a hub for international gatherings.

The Gambia is a member of the Organization for the Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The country is gearing to host the next summit of the OIC heads of state and government in 2022, which requires suitable accommodation for delegates from the member states.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, formerly the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, is an international organisation founded in 1969, comprising 57 member states, mainly majority Muslim states, according to research.

The Gambia remains committed to hosting the summit, added State House.

Few months ago, the OIC Secretariat organised a signing ceremony for the Concession Agreement between the Government and Immoland Sarl for the construction of an internationally branded five-star hotel. The hotel will have four hundred (400) rooms including Presidential and Royal Suites.
