Barrow to address the nation tomorrow

As part of the constitutional requirement for the head of state to address the nation on its overall sector achievements and plans, President Adama Barrow will on Thursday, 15 September 2022, deliver the constitutionally mandated State of the Nation Address (SONA) for the 2022 Legislative Year at the National Assembly complex in Banjul.

The president is expected to give an account of the developments, gains, and some of the challenges his government faced in the 2021-2022 Legislative Year. The address is also expected highlight the need to harness the insightful lessons learned so far for consolidation and planning, and cover all sectors, comprising the satellite institutions of the various Government Ministries in The Gambia. 

During the last SONA, the president's address focused mainly on critical issues and concerns requiring sustained attention for the development of the country; matters of national interest, and the themes were informed by the current national discourse, influenced principally by the people's concerns and development aspirations; and the key issues embrace policy, programme and project interventions, legislative matters, and the needs and expectations of the people. 

As preparations kick start, the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly has said that The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) would serve as the host broadcaster during the event, adding that all media outlets can receive both video and sound output for the live broadcast of the session.
