Barrow receives Gambia-France Parliamentary Friendship Group

His Excellency President Adama Barrow held a meeting with a delegation from the Gambia-France Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) during a courtesy visit to the State House in Banjul this Tuesday.

The meeting aimed to strengthen the existing bilateral relations between The Gambia and France, as well as to discuss key issues, particularly a Memorandum of Understanding that would allow both countries to benefit reciprocally.

The Parliamentarian for Brikama South, Honourable Lamin J. Sanneh, explained that this visit is part of ongoing efforts to discuss development-related issues and to enhance the good relations between the two countries.

The representative of France and also the Chairman of the PFG, Honourable Alieu Juwara, expressed his gratitude to President Barrow and the Gambian government. As a Senegalese national with Gambian origins, Juwara emphasised his commitment to nurturing strong relations with The Gambia. He highlighted his areas of interest, which include training members to become bilingual, improving sports, and promoting agricultural production.

President Barrow assured the French-Gambia Parliamentary Group of his collaboration. He noted the positive role the French government played during the initial stages of his administration and their ongoing support for ECOMIG, as well as assistance at the multilateral level through the European Union. He mentioned the recently launched WASIB project in Sifoe, which is supported by the French Development Agency.

The Gambian leader expressed his appreciation to the delegation for maintaining their connection to their country of origin, The Gambia. He also congratulated Honourable Juwara on his achievements in France, recognising his hard work and dedication in gaining recognition as a member of the French Parliament.
