The project, fully funded by the Government of The Gambia, comprises three road links: the 12-kilometre Laminkoto-Banni-Youna-Kunting Road, the 26-kilometre Karantaba-Reneru-Tabanani-Demfaye Njaga-Fitu Fulla Road, and the 12-kilometre Njau Loop-Carol Wharf Road.
“The construction works have been completed, and the road is now available for public use. It is pleasing that this road has the potential to transform the lives of thousands of our people. Today, we are not just talking about development; we are delivering it,” President Barrow told the people of CRR.
Barrow described the inauguration of the Reneru-Karantaba road as a milestone for the CRR. Among other benefits, Barrow said the road will connect communities, boost agricultural productivity, enhance access to education and healthcare, and stimulate local economies by attracting trade, investment, and new businesses to the area.
Barrow believes these benefits make the road a symbol of his government’s commitment to the people of CRR North and a fulfilled promise.
“I am happy to let you know that over the recent few days, we have noticed an unprecedented wave of development in this region,” the President explained. “The distances spanning from Ngayen Sanjal to Njau, Reneru to Karantaba, and here in Fitu Fula Sami show that the CRR North is being transformed. The road connecting Fitu Fula to the main trunk of the Lamin Koto Road will impact the lives of communities and a large population residing there.”
The Gambian Leader believes that the transformation is not accidental, but the result of careful planning, deliberate policy choices, and an unwavering commitment to leaving no community behind in his government’s national transformatory projects.
“Yet, this is just the beginning. There is more to come: more roads, more educational institutions, and more health facilities, among numerous other services,” he promised the people of CRR.
Barrow further praised the people of CRR North for their patience, resilience, and support. Construction works can be disruptive, but he encouraged them to continue to bear with his government’s work. He said the rewards would be far greater than the temporary inconveniences they encounter.
The President reminded the communities along the corridor that the road is theirs, and urged them to protect it, maintain it, and use it to build a better future for themselves and their children.
“In the interest of the nation, I call on all the regional, district, and village leaders, community elders, youth, and women to remain united. Do not allow anything or anyone to deceive and divide you,” he advised.
Barrow believes development thrives in an atmosphere of unity, peace, and stability. He urged the people to unanimously reject division, embrace dialogue, and work together for the common good, guided by their Gambian values and the laws of the land.
In response, the Chief of Sami District in CRR North, Alhagie Mame Demba Jallow, thanked the President and his government for the development they are bringing to the people of CRR.
“For more than 60 years, since the time of President Jawara, and President Jammeh, the development we are experiencing today, we have never seen before. President Barrow loves the people of CRR and we assure him that we will all rally behind him,” Jallow said.
He urged opposition members in the region to join President Barrow in developing the country. He said developing the country should be everyone's business.
