Under his leadership, Dr Adesina and the African Development Bank Group support The Gambia in various fields including modernisation of the Banjul Port, construction of the Senegambia Bridge, Agriculture and Climate change, social protection and the Energy sector. The ADB Group has also been supportive in strengthening national Institutions with Budget support and capacity building, due to these and his personal commitment.
At the Award lunch, Minister Keita welcomed Dr Adesina with words of gratitude for his personal commitment and the AfDB’s support to the country.
In his acknowledgement remarks, Dr Adesina welcomed the impact of the AfDB-funded projects on the lives and livelihoods of Gambians.
The AfDB Chief committed to continuing the support for The Gambia’s development journey. He applauded President Barrow’s visionary leadership in line with the African dream to advance the continent and its people, and pledged the Bank’s support in realising the Barrow administration’s desire to enhance women's and youth’s empowerment to grow the economy. Dr. Adesina also made pronouncements on several plans to support several sectors including making access to energy universal.
In his capacity as Chairman of Africa 50, a subsidiary of the AfDB, together with President Barrow also witnessed the signing ceremony between the Gambia Government and Africa 50 held at the Toll at the Senegambia Bridge. The Finance and Economic Affairs Minister, Honourable Seedy Keita, and the Executive Director of Africa 50, signed on behalf of the entities.
