The Bakery Association of The Gambia on Friday announced that it has reached a breakthrough with the minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Seedy Keita.

The Bakery Association said the government has agreed to subsidise the cost of a bag of flour which was D2100. According to them, a bag of flour will now cost D1900.

On Friday, bakers refused to sell ‘senfour’ bread.

With the high cost of flour it was rumoured that a loaf of bread will be increased from D10 to D15.

The price for flour has increased in the global market due to war in Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine jointly produce nearly 40% of global wheat.
