The fifth prosecuting witness, Momodou Sowe, also confirmed to the court that he recognised the two accused persons, Ousainou Bojang and Amie Bojang.
Commissioner Sower further revealed that the accused, Ousainou, told him he shot the windscreen of a C-Class vehicle which was stationed within the vicinity of the crime scene, adding that that shot was intended to shoot the third police officer, Ancy Jallow, who sustained injury.
The witness further testified that after the incident happened at Sukuta Traffic Lights, he received a call from the police headquarters that someone would call him because that person had vital information about the suspect.
He continued that a man called Musa Camara called him and he invited Musa for questioning, adding that Musa told him details about a lady that gave them information about the suspect they were searching for and he was arrested at Jululung after having a conversation with the lady and the accused confirmed to her that he shot the three police officers and was on the run to Zinguinchor.
Commissioner Sowe said they headed to Giboro on a convoy of three vehicles to meet with Mama Jabbie (3rd prosecuting witness) and then headed to Jululung to the Senegalese Gendarmerie where Ousainou Bojang was arrested. Subsequently, he said that after explaining their mission and following all protocols to the officers in charge, they took Ousainou along with them.
On their way to The Gambia, Commission Sowe said he introduced himself to Ousainou and assured him that nothing would happen to him and that the rule of law would be observed, stating that he questioned him about the incident and at the beginning, Ousainou told him that he fled The Gambia because of a white lady who posted his naked pictures on social media.
“When further questioned about which social media, he was stuck, he could not further explain. That was the time we dropped that story and he started explaining how the shooting incident happened,” Commissioner Sowe narrated.
He further said Ousainou Bojang confessed to him that he did the act and explained the routes he used to escape. “It was the first junction coming from Jabang towards Sukuta end,” he said.
Upon arrival at the camp, Commissioner Sowe further explained, a briefing was done with the team of investigators and the team was dispatched to Brufut at Ousainou’s residence, adding that in his room, a kaftan and canvas shoes were recovered and at the lodge where he used to work, a black jean was seen soaked in a bucket of water.
When asked why they recovered the items mentioned, the witness said some of the eyewitnesses at the crime scene did mention that the suspect was wearing a kaftan.
He further revealed that Ousainou Bojang led them to recover the dress he was wearing during the shooting at the police officers.
During their interrogation, he said, the accused changed his mind that he was not using those canvas shoes but rather he was wearing desert combat boots, which were subsequently recovered by the investigators.
Commissioner Sowe told the court that the accused explained to them how he escaped after the shooting incident- the following day, in the morning that the sister, who was the second accused, Amie Bojang, facilitated his escape by providing a Benz C-Class taxi that took them up to the border in Darsilami and when they arrived, the sister got back home and he entered in Senegal through Casamance to Jululung.
Asked about other items that were recovered at the crime scene, Commissioner Sowe affirmed that they recovered a pistol, and empty bullet cases that were not far from the crime scene, and that they had been placed in the custody of the forensics officers.
