Known for contributing to the socio-economic development of the country and helping the poor and the needy, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat on Tuesday 18 April 2023 extended humanitarian support to households affected by fire in Tallinding.

The Jammat distributed 273 bags of 50kg rice, 235 gallons of five-litre oil, 55 bags of 20kg of onion and 120 bags of 50, 20, and 10kg of sugar. The items are worth D518,000.

Speaking during the ceremony, Amir Baba Trawally recalled that it was the 10th of April that a fire disaster happened in a compound in Tallinding. He narrated that they were attending a funeral and saw the fire, adding that afterwards, their regional president Sainey Jarju gave them the information about the incident.

"We thought it’s necessary to assist because the Holy Month of Ramadan is all about togetherness and collectiveness. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said that there are three parts to the month of Ramadan. The first 10 days are the mercy of Allah Almighty, the second 10 days are forgiveness and the last 10 days are salvation," he explained.

Amir Trawally said together, “we can be able to assist those affected by the fire disaster.” He added that since the month of Ramadan, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat has been assisting the poor, needy and neighbours with rice, oil, onion and sugar.

According to him, that is the right of the beneficiary, adding it has been recorded by scholars that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was very kind and gave whatever he had during Ramadan.

"We the Muslims should always try to emulate the practices of the Prophet. Nobody wishes this because it's a disaster that can happen to anybody. Therefore, we are praying for the family."

The Jamat head preached that Islam is about assisting and promoting peace. He also called for the promotion of peace in our communities.

"The Gambia is a peaceful living country. We pray that the peace we are enjoying can be emulated by others because the essence of Ramadan is righteousness and a righteous person will not want to fight, instead will always try to accommodate and be tolerant," Amir stated.

Mustapha Darboe, representative of the National Disaster Coordinator, confirmed that the fire affected three households, while extending his gratitude to the Jamat through their leader Amir Trawally for the humanitarian support to the affected households.

"Their continuous commitment to providing relief during a crisis is a testimony to their dedication towards serving humanity. We are grateful for our partnership with the Jamat. It is through our collaborative efforts and collaboration we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by the disaster," he stated.

Omar Bajaha, a beneficiary, who received the goods on behalf of the victims, expressed delight and thanked the Jamat for the great gesture.
