3 suspects arrested with over 6000 pills of ecstasy

Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEAG) have reportedly arrested three individuals with over six thousand pills of ecstasy drugs, commonly known as Gaw-Gaw, The Point has been reliably informed.

The suspects are: Sainabou Jarju, 24, a resident of Bundung, Babucarr Jallow, 30, of Kerr Sering and one Muhammed Faal of Bundung. They are all currently detained by the narcotics agency as investigation into the matter continues.

The arrest of the three suspects, officials said, was as a result of a “sting operation” conducted by DLEAG officers in their quest of making the country a drug free nation.

Ousman Saidybah, the spokesperson of the agency who was contacted for comments, confirmed the development, saying: “All three individuals were clutched on the 31 of August 2024 with six thousand five hundred and eighteen (6518) pills of ecstasy at Mariama Kunda Junction and Bundung, respectively.”

Nine hundred and ninety pills of the ecstasy drugs, he said, were seized at Mariama Kunda Junction while the remaining five thousand five hundred and nineteen 5519 pills were seized at Bundung.

The seizure, Saidybah continued, happened on the heels of operatives seizing 11 blocks of cocaine at Giboro Border Post on the 29 of August from a Bissau Guinean and another 332 pills of ecstasy from two Senegalese who were arrested at the Amdalai Border Post.

The DLEAG PRO said another 100 pills of ecstasy drug was seized from a Gambian national at Latrikunda.

In a similar but separate development, he went on, eight other people including an alleged child offender were arrested at diverse locations across the country with varying types and quantities of prohibited and controlled drugs.

“Twenty-seven year-old Sarjo Njie was arrested at Bundung Central on the 29 of August 2024 with 19 pills of suspected ecstasy and 17 pieces of suspected hashish (cannabis resin). Again, 55-year-old Baba Sohna was arrested at Tipa Garage on the 28 of August with 40 wraps of suspected kush.”

“Twenty-five year-old Marcus Moussa Gueye, an American national and a resident of New York, was arrested at Banjul Ferry terminal on the 30 of August with some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa, while the 17-year-old alleged child offender was also arrested with three parcels and five wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.”

“Ebrima Sowe, 55, was also arrested at Mandinaba Checkpoint with five parcels of suspected cannabis sativa, while one Lasouk Diouf, a Senegalese national and a resident of Dakar was arrested at Jenoi Checkpoint in the LRR with one bundle and fifty parcels of suspected cannabis sativa.”

“One Badou Sallah, was also arrested at the beach side around Banjul Ferry Terminal with three small plastics and some quantities of suspected cannabis skunk, while 27-year-old Ebrima Ceesay was arrested at Tennis Bar in Basse in URR with 17 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.”

The management of the DLEAG, he went on, assures the public of the agency’s commitment and dedication to bridle drugs and related activities.

“Therefore, we call on the public to remain vigilant and share with us information related to illicit drugs and related activities, taking into account that it is only through collaborative partnership that we can make gains in the crusade on drugs and related activities.”
